Impact4Shape

Generative shapes

Generative concrete art as a rule-based system

Impact4Shape is software for generating geometric image and movement structures in the context of concrete and kinetic art. The application produces compositions not through free drawing, but through defined rules, parameters and mathematical relations between form, colour, space and movement.

At the centre stand elementary geometric forms such as circle, square or triangle, arranged across several layers through nested transformations in a 2D space. The resulting compositions derive complete visual systems deterministically and rule-based from one set of parameters. Identical parameters reproducibly produce the same composition.

An essential concept of Impact4Shape is the Motion Alphabet: a system of opposing principles of movement, in which groups of objects are organised and animated along independent dimensions. Different directions of movement, speeds and shifts in time create visual tension and rhythmic structures - following the principles of kinetic concrete art.

The software allows control over:

* basic geometric forms and shape styles * layer and group systems * symmetry, rotation and spatial distribution * colour palettes and gradients * scaling and movement curves * transparency, outlines and corner radii * deterministic variants and series

From a current state, variants can be generated, compared and organised in a library. Individual compositions can then be exported as scenes in their own right.

Technically, Impact4Shape is built on C++, Qt 6 and QML. The rule engine combines a native grammar in C++ with a script-based layer for defining generative systems.

Impact4Shape does not understand itself as a classic drawing programme, but as a tool for developing rule-based visual systems between design, movement and algorithmic composition.
