Impact4Sculpt

3D sculpture generator

Generative 3D sculpture production for immersive applications

Impact4Sculpt is a specialised production tool for creating animated 3D render sequences for immersive and interactive applications. From rule-based compositions the software produces high-quality moving-image assets that are later used in real-time systems - in cube projections, interactive spaces or large-scale media installations.

Unlike classic 3D animation workflows, the movements and compositions are not built up manually scene by scene. Instead the sculptures arise from controllable rules and parameters. Arrangement, movement, colours, proportions and timing can be changed systematically and combined with one another. Extensive series of independent visual variants can therefore be produced within a short time.

Working with generative compositions

The software is built on a modular layer system. Several independent composition layers can be combined at once and together form a spatial, animated sculpture.

Every layer has its own properties for:

* geometry and object types * patterns of arrangement and spatial structures * animation and sequences of movement * colour and size gradients * material definitions * choreography in time

Complex images of movement thereby arise out of simple basic principles. Rows, grids, rings, volumetric structures or symmetrical formations can be combined and animated. Movements run synchronously, staggered, radially or in waves and produce sculptural transformations in space.

The composition remains fully parametric at all times. Variants are stored not as individual scenes but as compact parameter states. Existing results can therefore be changed deliberately, mutated or developed further systematically.

Real-time preview and visual working

Impact4Sculpt offers a direct live preview of the final visual result. Changes to parameters become visible immediately - including materials, lighting, shadows and animation.

The software serves not only as a generator of abstract forms, but as a complete visual production environment for high-quality render assets. Artistic decisions can be judged directly in the final look, without switching between different applications.

3ds Max and V-Ray as production basis

The technical foundation is a production workflow based on Autodesk 3ds Max and Chaos V-Ray.

The generated sculptures can therefore be produced with the same rendering technologies used in architectural visualisation, motion design and high-end CGI. Materials, lighting moods, reflections, soft shadows and volumetric effects are produced with the quality of a classic offline rendering.

In contrast to real-time rendering systems, what stands in the foreground is not maximum frame rate but maximum image quality.

The software automates the entire construction of scenes and render processes within 3ds Max. From the generative parameter states, fully prepared render sequences arise that can be calculated locally or on render nodes.

Automated asset production

Selected variants are exported as complete asset packages. For every composition the system produces numbered PNG sequences at freely definable resolution and length.

Additional render passes can optionally be output, for example:

* beauty rendering * alpha masks * shadow passes * object or layer separations

The sequences can therefore later be combined flexibly in real-time applications or compositing systems.

The animations produced are built to loop and matched exactly to the defined number of frames. Clean, seamless cycles of movement for permanent installations and interactive systems arise from this.

Use in immersive systems

The rendered sequences serve as visual building blocks within a higher-level real-time application.

Because lighting calculation, material quality and complex animation are already pre-rendered, the application itself remains technically unburdened. The real-time software concentrates exclusively on:

* interaction * spatial arrangement * synchronisation * sensing * response to sound * projection and display control

Impact4Sculpt thereby joins the image quality of high-grade offline renderings with the flexibility of interactive real-time systems.

What the software is for

Impact4Sculpt is not a classic animation programme and not a general 3D tool. The software was developed deliberately as a production system for generative 3D moving-image sculptures.

At its centre stands the idea of making complex visual series producible efficiently - with consistent quality, high variability and a clearly structured production process.

The result is high-quality animated 3D sequences that can be integrated as modular visual elements into immersive spaces, interactive installations and digital media architectures.
